Freelance designers wanted!

We’re looking for freelance graphic designers / artworkers to add to our database. Designers should have a good eye for detail, be able to work quickly and efficiently, use their initiative, and be able to be called upon at relatively short notice. Designers will mainly be required to work on our personalised items. Work will not be constant, but we will call on successful designers as and when we need them. Designers will be required to work on a mac, and have Adobe Indesign & Photoshop CS5 (preferably). All working will be remote, so location is not a problem.

The Drifting Bear Co. is coming…

After an exciting first year of trading in 2011, 2012 is looking bright here at Bear Graphics.

Firstly, we are joined by Tanya, who will be working with us on our creative product development, and our ever growing mountain of admin. Tanya has a degree in Fine Art and has a vast experience of high street retail, having worked at several high profile retailers, most recently as part of the management team at Paperchase.

Secondly, a new year will be bringing a new name. Bear Graphics will shortly be changing to The Drifting Bear Co., and our new home will be at www.thedriftingbear.com. We feel a little restricted by our current name, and the new The Drifting Bear Co. will allow us to branch out into new areas. We’ll still be offering all the products and services we do now, as well as lots more to come in 2012.

Thirdly, we are looking for freelance designers to join our team. If you are interested, please email david@beargraphics.co.uk.

And finally… we have a dog. He’s called Sydney.

Coordinated flip flops!

We love getting requests for custom designs, especially this one did yesterday. After buying a personalised coordinate print a few weeks ago, our customer loved it so much they wanted the print designed to fit on a pair of flip flops. Each flip flop is designed with the coordinates of the couples home towns, and a pair will be given to all the guests as favours at their wedding in Rio, Brazil. Apparently it’s common in Brazil to give Havaianas as favours, as it also helps girls to dance longer!

I wonder if we’ll get an invite… ?

We’ve just found out that Bear Graphics has been nominated for The Notonthehighstreet.com Make Awards 2011, in two categories! Our Personalised Typographic Coordinate Print is up for ‘Personalised Product of the Year 2011′ and ‘Best Gift for Men 2011′. The Make Awards judging panel includes designer Sebastian Conran, Eden Project founder Tim Smit, and Sunday Times Editor Rachel Bridge. Fingers crossed everyone!

Where is your Special Place? Personalised coordinate print stories

‘Your Special Place’ personalised coordinate prints have been shipped around the world, many for special occasions like wedding anniversarys, new home gifts, or just ‘one off buys’ for people looking for something unique to hang on their wall. I take great pleasure in designing each and every one of them, knowing how much that ‘special place’ means to the customer. I thought I’d share with you a couple of the stories from the orders I’ve recieved…

KatelinC owns a wedding venue in Scotland, UK. She wanted the green style coordinate print which she will get framed up and give to the happy couple as a suprise ‘added extra’ after the ceromony, with the exact coordinates for the venue itself, and the date of the wedding. Lovely!

AmandaJ in Maine, USA, wanted the Letterpress style coordinate print as a present for her boyfriend; “I would like the coordinates for Maine Beach, as this is the place that my boyfriend and I had our first date and held hands for the first time! This is an amazing idea and he will love it” Not only did Amanda get the coordinates for Maine Beach, but between us and Google Earth, we managed to pin it down the the near exact location on the beach that that first touch of hands happened!

Now that’s special!
